Are there any couples living apart due to career paths?

My husband and I have moved to Tucson because I took a position. I was terminated and was offered a job in Mesa and he has been offered a job in Tucson. Our plans are that he stay in Tucson and I live 120 miles away so we can each have a job. Is this common? And can this work?
